I was expecting a noisy hotel seen some reviews I've read. But Kafkas must have had a renovation at the end of 2009 because everything was new and clean (ceilings, walls, windows etc.). I had a room on the side of the street and the tramway was underneath the window, but I had no trouble sleeping. The personnel was friendly and helpful. Room had everything I needed for a good price. I would recommend this hotel, especially for travelers who want to be in a lively spot of the city, with all the boats, trams etc. in walking distance.
The bed could be more comfortable.

Robert Livermore and I were on a n Adventure Tour which was great. We arrived at the hotel three days early so we could explore the city. Eigen, the night clerk, was the only person on duty who spoke English.
Eigen wasn't helpful. When I asked him about sights to see or places to eat. "You don't need a guide." Robert and I walk around the city on our first day in Istanbul. We had lunch in a siewalk sandwich shop. I got food poisoning and had to go to the hospital because I was sick for some six hours. The room was okay except when I took a comforter from the closet which was soiled with urine. No English spoken at the desk during the day at the desk or by the staff. The breakfast was fine.. Daily we punched in room numbers to get key. .Kaftas pays the staff little says a shop owner we met at a nearby restaurant

It is located in the mid of old Istanbul city where you can walk around all historical laces and shop around all along the street side. Very nice location for visitor to see Istanbul culture.
They have no room service food facilities or restaurant but only breakfast. English is abit problem for communication but hotel staff I found absolutely nice and frindly. I have booked hotel with my visa card with Booked.net but surprisingly hotel had charged me to pay in cash at the time of departure. I was not sure whether I had been double charged.
